Location and techniques

#1 Post by Renaud »

Hi Lads,

I'm a French guy who has just arrived in Ireland for a work experience at the airport.
I'm used to fish in France, but in rivers.
I've been a few times to Howth to try to fish. I went to Sutton just next to the Martello Tower, and today at the Split Rock. But I didn't catch anything.
I use a line with a float and a weight bought at Henry's Tackle shop with worms bought in the same shop. I try to fish at incoming tide, 2 hours before high tide.
I don't really know why I'm not able to catch a fish with that stuff. Maybe it's something about depth.

Could you give me some pieces of advice? I really like Howth, it's a beautiful place but i'd prefer to catch something!

Thanks in advance,

Renaud

Hi Renaud,

I have tried a few times with the float kit recently with no luck either. I reckon you have it right but just abit early to catch wrasse and pollack. Keep adjusting your depth and the fish will be here soon enough. I found that an hour or two after the high tide produces the best wrasse.

Best of luck.
