They're Back! Donaghadee, Co Down 10/04/11

#1 Post by Drew »

People: Shep and Drew

Duration: 6.30pm - 9pm

Tide: Dropping away.

Weather: Summeresque.

Bait: Rag, Mackeral

Rigs: 2 Hook Flapper, Sheppy Rig, Loops

Results:

While I was there Sheppy managed a Shore Rockling and Pollack.
I personally had 2 Ballan, 1 Corking Wrasse and a Shore Rocking.

Report:

Got out of work at 4pm, came home and sat down on SAI for a wee read, read Ocean Roars report and thought I'd go out and try somewhere local for the Wrasse, still undecided I got the gear together and jumped in the car, just then the phone went, it was Sheppy, Dean and Shep were having some success with the Coalies on Donaghadee! I figured it was as good a spot as any, so I headed down, Just missed Dean but Shep had stayed to fish on with me.

I set the M4 up with a 2 hook flapper in the rough, while fishing the usual loop for the coalies in the mouth, highly unusual but I didn't manage a touch on the Loops all night, probably due to the lack of lugworm.

Shep was fishing down the side at the light, and managed his first Shorey of the year on Mackeral, as well as a small Pollack.

While I concentrated on wrasse fishing for the duration of daylight, followed by 2 big Mackeral baits out the back during darkness to try and connect with a dogfish, sadly didn't happen.

Slow day for Donaghadee, but at least the wrasse are coming back.
