Red Bay Co.Antrim 9-4-11

#1 Post by chuckaroo »

People: ma and a mate

Duration: 7.30pm - 12.30am

Tide: low at 8.30pm

Weather: great

Bait: rag, squid

Rigs: spinners and rigs, aye

Report: did a bit of spinning at a mark for one hour for pollack but no joy. think my mate lost one but it wasnt too big, he started complaining it was no good and a bit windy (part-timer! :D ) so we headed around the bay to baitfish from another mark.
got set up at 9.30 with three rods out in total, all with cocktails of rag and squid. the wind settled and it was a perfect night, the craic started, and we started catching fish. in the end i got a few doggies, a few cod (new species for the year :) ), a 5-bearded rockling (new species for the year :) ), a coley, and edible crabs. mate got a couple of doggies and a few cod. it was decent fishin with a range of species but the fish were all TINY.
my mate is a keen enough angler but he wouldnt get out too often. he seemed to enjoy himself alright but at the end of the session he said that is was a pity 'we didnt catch anything!' :| true i in a way, hopefully some bigger fish next time!

nice one charlie. sadly those fish are the usual sort of size for round there as you know only too well   . the days of 5lb cod and 2lb plaice from there as the norm are long gone. at the end of the day, you can only catch what's out there in front of you man. so that was a decent session for there man :D

only too true Al, cheers. aye, it was nice to add a few to the species count for the year anyways. i wasnt expecting a 5-bearded rockling to come along quite as quickly.. the count is on! :) 8)

Jees, just noticed what i wrote there too..: People: ma and a mate
My ma wasn’t there at all. She wouldn’t be interested whatsoever! She never goes fishin!
