Re: spinning for pollock off the boat
Yes, you should manage some good sport spinning from the boat with this outfit. Maybe think about a mono leader just for a wee bit of shock absorbtion when using the braid. I have caught decent sized pollack on a spinning rod rated just 5-15gms. Also have seen them pulled in on a fly rod off the rocks. Try the sidewinder lures with this combination, pollack hit them like a steam train!! Good luck.

Re: spinning for pollock off the boat
i suppose it depends on how deep the water is and how big the pollack are.
apart from being expensive, i think storm shads and similar are a bit bouyant
and dont sink as well as a shad on a plain lead head

Re: spinning for pollock off the boat
Had great fun down The Hook last year on the same setup. Catana rod and reel, 20lb braid. Even the smallest little pollacks put a nice shock up the rod when they hit it. Lure of the day for me was a small flash minnow with a 1/2 oz ball weight bout 2-3 feet up the trace.

Re: spinning for pollock off the boat
It is the most satisfying way to catch them in my book.
Have a look at my blog for our recent outing.
I will be adding the report here as soon as I read the new charter.
Danny.

EXCELLENT RESULT, THAT IS A LOVELY LOOKING FISH. I WOULD IMAGINE IT GAVE YOU SOME SCRAP ON YOUR LIGHT OUTFIT! THE WEE SIDEWINDERS ARE HARD TO BEAT FOR THE POLLACK. AS A MATTER OF INTEREST, WHAT COLOURS WERE DOING THE BIZ AND DID YOU FIND THE 4 INCH OR 6 INCH MORE PRODUCTIVE?
