East cork March 29th & April 03rd

#1 Post by evan699 »

March 29th
People: Me and cormac
Time: 18.00 - 22.00
Weather: Miserable
Rigs: 3 hook flappers and pulley pennels
Bait: Mack, fresh and frozen lug and razor
Results: Me 7 flounder
Cormac 2 flounder

Fished into darknes. not much to report. Crowds of ravenous flounder patrolled the gulley that we were fishing into all night. Hoping for a bit of silver over high water but the weather was gettin too nasty at that stage so we headed off.

April 03rd
People: Me and fishy 1987
Time: 13.00 - 17.00
Weather: A few light showers but overall sunny and warm
Rigs: 5/0 pulley pennels and 3 hook flappers
Bait: Fresh crab, black lug, mack and razor
Results: Me 6 flounder
Fishy 11 flounder

With the flounder showing up in numbers on the beaches again i decided to get fishy out for a few casts to try and bag his first. We got set up on the beach and cast out. While setting up my second rod fishy hauled in a double shot of flounder so that was job done. I fished a big pennel bait out at distance with a 3 hook flapper in close. I picked up a double shot first cast and it went on like that for a while with fishy getting a steady stream of flounder in close. After i'd had a bit of fun flattie bashing i concentrated on the bass so changed the second rod over to a pennel and fished the 2 rods at different distances. I tried crab, lug, razor, and a coctail of all of these in different mixes and had nothing to show for it. With the tide pushing us back up the beach and now covering a bit of broken to rocky ground below us, i decided i'd chuck my last cast into this tackle graveyard to see if i could temp a bass as they didn't seem to be on the clean ground in the surf. Snagged and packed up so no bass yet. Want to get one off the list early so i can focus my efforts on ray so gonna give the bass a go again during the week. Fishy was delighted with his new species and 11 of them :D Grand to see the fish feeding well in daylight and i even got a bit of a sun tan. Summers on the way. :D

Thanks peter. Nice spot down there alright. I'd be cursing if i went down there without a rod though. It was a grand day for a walk though. Nice to meet ye anyway. We'll try again during the week for the bass. We were kept entertained by the flounder anyway so all wasn't lost. Hopefully the unsettled weather will get a few big fish moving. :)

Cheers for the comments lads. Gotta love those hungry flounders alright. I'll put in a few bass hours in the next few weeks and retreat to the rock marks then to concentrate on other species when i tick the bass off the list.

I caught my first bass when i was fishing for ray. I was gutted. Was hoping it was a ray. If it was the other way round and i caught a ray while bass fishing i'd be delighted. Still never caught my ray. :(
