I've had two lobsters while shore fishing. One from Sorrento point and one from Collimore harbour. Great surprise each time but I put them back. I felt sorry for them.

Fished of currabinny pier one day, around midday I caught a nice kilo lobster, hooked fairly in the mouth, about 2 hours later I was reeling in what seemed to be a bucket or something, when it came to the surface it was a large pottery flower pot, and my hook was lodged in a hole in the pot, when I lifted it in believe it or not there was another lobster, around the same size curled up in the pot
I have never caught one before or since, although I did see a guy catch one nearly 9lbs in weight off the wall in monkstown while fishing for conger, he put it back, my 2 were not so lucky.... lol

we fish a harbour mark up on the north causeway coast that has thrown up quite a few lobster over the years :P . i think we had 3 from it all hooked fair and square in the mouth in 3 visits  . 2 of them were over a kilo each and were kept. but 1 was brooding a clutch of eggs and was returned to provide the next generation of lobsters  . just give the tail of the lobster a quick check before you keep them. if it's holding a clutch of eggs or has a V notch cut out the tail they have to be returned as they are the breeders doing thier bit to replenish future stocks. :P

I've seen two caught before off pier head in cobh so i'd say it's not that strange down that way.
