disaster day(lost rod) 20-03-2011,carrowinsky strand,mayo

#1 Post by saving private brian »

People;meself and tex

Duration;14,00pm-18.00pm

Tide;lw@midday

Weather;nice with a good surf,wind S/W

Bait:razors,lugs,macks,sandeels,crab,squid,whitebait

Rigs,pulleys,flappers

Results flounders biggest was 38cm

Report...........me and terry had planned a cast on saturday night but me being too lazy and terrys van in trouble it was called off.so today after getting some fresh bait i went up and picked terry up around 13.00pm.with the low tides today i went out and pulled around 20 razor for bait.i froze some for later dates and cooked 5 of them and wrapped in tinfoil for terry to try.was met then by terrys sister who was a chef so she gave me some cooking tips for the future.after eating the razors, myself and terry headed off.got there at around 14.00pm and all looked good.we both banged 2 rods out and waited.bite detection was low so it was a waiting game.i brought in the first flat of 38cm.a quick pic and away with it.me and terry then sat down for coffee and cream crackers when a massive surge came up on my tripod,i went quickly over to move the tripod back but as i got there another one came in and knocked the tripod over.i got the tripod and my sonik rod but couldnt see my shakespeare salt bass rod....looked for a few minutes but couldnt see it....waded around the water but coulnt see it,,,,i was heartbroken as it was my first beachcaster type rod.had another cheap rod im me bag so baited it up and put it out but wasnt the same....i was still gutted.how could this happen to me.....what i think happened was that around that time there was large chunks of weed about so when it came off the tripod it had a large lump of weed on it so it was quickly pulled out.i didnt even see it go out it was that quick and at this mark there is a fast surge and draw...we picked up a few flats and the weed got so heavy we went to another mark.when i was just parking up my clutch in the van went....i think its the cable thats gone,,,now we were stuck,,,,,rang me sister and she agreed to drive 40 miles and pick us up.we were so happy to know we were heading home....what a disaster of a day for me..one day cost me a couple of hunderd euro but thats life  we will get over it. and come back stronger....its a good job i have a new rod and reel on the way into my life in a few days

IF THERE IS ANY OF THE MAYO OR GALWAY LADS FISHING THIS MARK OR THE WHITESTRAND AREA COULD THEY PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR MY SHAKESPEARE SALF BASS ROD(11FT6') AND MITCHELL GITA SW700 FIXED SPOOL REEL

would be a dream to get this rod back as i got so used to it

thanks brian

ya im going to put it on mwr fm now at 10.00pm.lots of locals might hear it and then might find it stuck between rocks etc.if the rod breaks off from the part of the seaweed that is clung on ot the tackle i reckon she might come ashore or maybe the seaweed might get jammed somewhere.ah if its gone its gone  .we will just have to get a new one
