Report:Despite the lack of reports from the East Coast, I decided to give it a lash and head down the motorway to Wexford in the hope of a few fish. It was lashing rain on the way down and once again I wondered what I was doing

. I had promised myself that I was giving up being a Martyr in 2011, but here I was chasing after some scarce fish ,,,,,,driving in the rain down to Wexford with petrol past €1-50 a litre

. The rain had thankfully stopped by the time I arrived but I had to walk through the flooded river on arrival and I set up my tent in case it rained again, which of course it did

. On the plus side it was mild enough, and it cleared off after a half hour or so. I set up my 2 rods, one in close and one at distance, a sneaky crab on the distance one

, and lug and squid on the flappers. Fishface arrived and set up and guess what,,he had only cast out when the ratchet screamed and he landed a nice Dab, who must have had a strong bite

. When he landed another fish shortly after, a rockling,,,,,,,,,,without reply from me, I could sense what was coming, ,,,,,,,,another night of slagging from Fishface

. I was relieved to land a rockling myself, then a whiting , and then the night progressed into a session of rockling after rockling. All I got on the distance rod was pin whiting, despite my hopes of a small Smoothie (in my dreams

).. Mitch and Ringo arrived and set up in the distance. I soon saw Ringo throwing back a fish,,,,,from which I deduced that he must be catching

,no flies on me

. On talking to the lads later, I found out that they were catching 5 beard rockling, or slugs as they now seem to be called, I prefer rockling, and flats. Not very exciting fishing, as they dont really move the rod tip much,if at all

.Neil had had enough by 10pm and packed up,,,,and I followed suit at 10-30pm, but not before being called over to see Ringos last fish,,,,,,,,,,a beautiful little Smoothound, perfectly formed. I sent Fishface a photo from my phone, hopefully to annoy him!, as we were all wearing Imax survival suits, he wouldnt know which one of us caught it

. I was so envious of Ringo, he caught it on crab as well, which I had been sneakily using all evening. Still ,,,even seeing one is a start, all I have to do now is catch one myself
ps,,,,,I ended up with 6 rockling and 2 pin whiting ,,,much the same as everyone else except for Ringo ,,who had a Smoothound
