cork session18/19-02-2011

#1 Post by saving private brian »

People meself,tex(terry) and taz(dom) and met Rockhunter(frank)@ 1pm sat.

Duration; left home at 4pm friday got home at 11pm sat

Weather; windy at first but eased.was nice, very odd drizzle, great surf

Tides; coming,going,coming,,,,,,,,,,,,

Bait; macks,lugs,whitebait,mussel,cockles,live peelers and razors

Rigs, 4/0 pulleys,4/0 pennel pulleys,6/0 pulleys,6/0 pennel pulleys and flappers

Result; very poor 2 x codling(22,39cm) 1x flounder(28) 1xrockling,1xcoalie(34)

Report..................after all the bad weather and weed reports meself and terry had forgotten wat is was like to have a good session.our morale was very low.gettin the odd flat was not doin our confidence any use so,wednesday last terry got info that a few cod were still knocking around the south coast.at first i didnt know wat to think of this trip but soon terry had me convinced to go so we did.picked up some big juicy lugs on friday along with some huge mussels as it is one of my favourite baits for cod.left my home town at 4pm friday to catch my lift with terry at 5pm.we headed off for galway first to pick up dominic.to be honest it was like a comedy show on the way down.every thing we talked about was big.big cod,bi bass and little did we know that it was to predict our faith in the next day or 2.the craic was so good we ended up in kerry and put an hour and half on to our journey and also keeping dan a guy in cork who had crab for us waiting longer.( i want to apolgise for that dan).also the pilot of the van(you know who you are  ) somehow managed to hit a curb at 50km and put us into a silence mode.thank god there was no damage done that we think so we continued to cork with a little less craic.picked up our crab, weights, knifes, hooks that we purchased off dan in halfway angling.i wud like to thank him very much for that if he reads this.heaed off to our first mark and chatted to a few lads along the wall and reports were poor.we were this far so we had to keep goin.of course the 2 lads had to have 2 pints first asd its nearly a tradition now at this stage but i refused as i set meself a target to stay drink free from the the start of this year to paddys day.maybe this was another omen why we didnt catch the fish we were hopin for???????.did i break a tradition by refusing a pint?????????.time will tell.we baited up and baned out 1 rod each.notin the first hour, the odd bit of weed so i changed my bait to a good sized lug, with 2 good sized mussels whipped on and put it on a 6/0 pulley and i mean launced it into the channel that was atleast over a 100 yeards out.we chatted and then my rod went noddding.i struck but felt nothin so left it down.so eventually i reeled in and found a small codling of (39) on it.was happy and the future looked good so i took a pic and realesed the fish.meanwhile terry had brought in a small one at the same time.stayed there another half hour before wrapping up and headed to a beach mark an half an hour away.got to it and fished there till 5am sat morning.had nothing major on it( small coalie, flounder, rockling), but had haystacks of weed the last hour.was awful and lost lots of gear,so we drove back to our first mark where meself and dom dozed in the van for 2 hours while terry the mad man kept fishing.i think he got 1 or 2 small fish but i didnt add them on here as i was asleep    .we had planned to meet rockhunter today at 1pm so we left here at 10.30pm to head out his way.we got directions of a lad in a garage and headed out.we got to the carpark and i rang frank who told us where to head while he said he would join us later.met frank at 1 and we fished on there till 5 ish with the torture of weed from 4 onwards.we didnt pick a single thing up here but i was optomistic it would produce into the dark but by 5pm the tiredness was kicking in and we had a 5 hour journey home so we done the right thing and headed back without leaving our thanks to frank who was more than willing to help us with marks to fish.....on the way back to the van we seen to foreign lads fishings near by the van but didnt seem to have anything.the craic wasnt as good on the way home as the tiredness kicked in.terry drove her to chareville, then i took over the duties to galway where we dropped dom off.i got home near 11pm and hit the hay straight away.was a bit dissapointed but im gonna make up for it in the near distant future

would like once again to thank dan in halfway and frank (Rockhunter)for helping us along.we hope to meet again this summer and hopefully avail with some better results

took pics but the fish were poor quality so didnt bother uploading them

Great to meet you and the lads. Shame the fishing wasn't better, where we fished on Satuday is one of the few beaches that does produce in daylight but it wasn't to be unfortuntely. The surf might have been a bit too big too.

Earlier on the surf wasn't too bad but seemed to get bigger from about 4 pm as the tide was rising, even though there was little wind. A few big ones surged up the beach after the lads left, and I decided to get out of there before high tide while I could still get around the rocks. But sounds like the surf got even bigger

Brian you were lucky with the surf because that place can be unreal for bass .sometimes a good surf dont mean bass down on that beach :( but try it again when the sea settles and you should have a better session.
