The return of North V South........:-)

#1 Post by petekd »

Remember this lads....? :D

http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... th+v+south

Some years ago there was a little seed of an idea that summed up what this website, in its infancy, was all about. The site back then wasn't about an encyclopedic font of knowledge on all things sea fishing, it wasn't even about who had the biggest rod.... It was a place where people could interact, meet up, cultivate friendships in all parts of the isle..... The banter was mighty, the craic was ninety and there was one meet in particular that summed up all that was good about the unlikely marriage of sea angling and the internet! That meet was North V South.....

For those that weren't there, you missed a cracking weekend.... It was a challenge match between Northern users and Southern users on Benone beach that revolved around a weekend of lubrication.... (of the alcoholic variety mind!) I caught my first ever counting fish in a comp that day, a day the wind howled, the rain blew, Mark Beatty had a breakdown after watching me produce a doubler of turbot after heading for an hours kip in the dunes, the South won, Colin Keogh (where are you now mate, who can forget the antics of the Keogh brothers on SAIs travels!) took top honours. Such was its success, with a record attendance (at the time) we vowed to make it an annual thing which for some reason, never transpired.

Well, to hell with all that non bothering nonsense, to hell with the recession and the doom and gloom enveloping our nation in ever tightening shrouds! Lets do something fun where its not so much about the fishing but more about the slagging and the craic.

Great shout Pete,

There may also be an East V West challenge out there this year. Was onto Kevin B., (the night he won the jimmy funny enough) on an East Coast Raiders V West Coast Vikings match. Hopefully we might get that up and running too!

Hello there! As an original NvS'er I have to say, the weekend in Portstewart/Benone was one of the greatest Angling experiences I've had in Ireland. It was, without doubt, the biggest internet meeting of like minded souls there had ever been in Ireland, and something we hope to repeat this year.
Suggestions as to venues, etc etc will be welcomed on this thread, as well as gauging interest for the event. Guys, if you're unsure about this kind of meet, let me reassure you that it's the best sort of weekend you'll have.
Bit of Fishing, meeting those who you've been talking to online for years, the pub (usually before and after!), and the chance to learn from those in the know.
Myself, Crow, Pete, Nige and many others have experienced a NvS, and hopefully over the coming months we'll be able to share what it meant to us, with those who are new to the forum, or didn't attend the originals.
Lets start planning the biggest and best N.v.S.v.E.v.W meet ever seen in Ireland.
With a bit of dedication, we can do this.

hell yeah!! any ideas on what month in the year we'll plan it for?. i have some great rock marks on the north coast that would give some of the dub, wicklow and galway lads a chance to get cuckoo wrasse, plaice, dragonets, ling and congers ticked off their species lists for 2011  . sadly we had'nt found the site for the last NvS meet but would'nt miss this one for anything
i would'nt even bother with digs, just bring the tents and set up camp for the weekend :D :D
