ugly stik boat rod

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

ugly stik boat rod

#1 Post by mtb »

New to boat angling but have owned a couple of Ugly Stiks in the past for shore and spinning. Fancy a light boat rod not above 20 lbs. Confused by the array of models available. Any recommendations?

Daiwa kenzaki 8) Google it and I don't think you'll come across a bad review.

TBH I think I would avoid the Ugly Stick boat rods. There could be an issue with a weak spigot joint.

The Kensakis are lovely rods, there is huge choice now in the 6-12 12-20 class rods. All the manufacturers have rods to suit all budgets.

Back to the UglyStik boat rods - if you're dead set on getting one, look for the 1480 model in 15 lb range. Dunno if they still make it or not. The tech is 15 or more years out of date, but it's still an excellent all-rounder once you get tuned into its tip action.

I got Kenzaki's on the WSF forum from a guy for £60 or 70 each brand new, not had them out yet but the reviews were brilliant. I went for the 6-12 and 12-20lb rods.
