Did i get a bargain?

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

Did i get a bargain?

#1 Post by yngkmd »

recently after some last second sniping on ebay i have picked up 2 reels (which if they are any good) i think were a bargain.

i got a Penn Longbeach 65 for £12.50 which i plan to use for conger fishing off the shore
and a Shakespeare Summit for £11.50 which i would use off a boat, only light/medium fishing, no heavy stuff.
both reels are in near mint condition.

i know with the penn it should do me alright and if i look after it should last me years
ive never heard of the shakespear summit though

does anyone have any experience or opinions on either of these reels?

any comments appreciated

good stuff

theres nothing worse than thinking you are getting a bargain then ending up with cheap crap and having to buy better stuff anyway

The Penn Longbeach, despite its name is a boat reel. A lump of a thing with a puny 2. something ratio retrieve. Will be OK for dropping baits down the side of a structure but its a very basic boat reel and I cant see you casting it with any success to be perfectly honest. Pretty bullet proof though, there is nothing really in it to go wrong, I have had one for years. At £12.50, it is a steal I suppose and will no doubt be far superior to the Shakespeare one.
Fluff chucking is the new black..... Rampant Wreckfish is a fly angler in denial :D
