Bray Harbour, Co Wicklow, 30-01-11

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me

Duration:6-30pm-10-30pm

Tide:high approx 9-15pm

Weather:cold,very cold

Bait:lug, squid

Rigs:2 hook flappers, single hook

Results:‎7x rockling, 1x codling, 1 x whiting

Report:Had to go to Cavan to pray on Saturday so I missed out on a session with Fishface and Ger  ,but I was now hopefully on the good side of Our Lord and had 40 lug on standby just in case I got out Sunday  .Went to Bray Harbour for handiness and set up 2 rods as usual, one in and one out. The first hour and a half went by without incident , then 2 lads came by and set up. I had only just told them that there was nothing doing when I got a bite and pulled in a rockling , of the 5 beard variety  . The next hour, up to high tide, was quite busy, with me getting another 7 fish, rockling, whiting, and a nice little codling in close who nearly pulled my rod in over the wall (slight exaggeration  ). I was glad to be busy, as it was freezing there, as cold as i've been yet this winter  . I lost a 2 hook trace in close but was delighted to retrieve it just before I packed up  The Last cast produced a nice rockling so I was well pleased going home. The other two lads didnt have much luck  .

ps,,,,,,,,,,,Fishface mustnt have had much luck on Saturday night either as I dont see a report and he didnt send me any photos to my phone trying to sicken me

Sure I was o.k. for the first 2 hours meself Roger  ,it was the other 2 hours that did it  ,,then the missus, who was in the slots, couldnt get any phone signal(Yeah right  ),and was late picking me up,but it was lucky for me cos i got my rig and weight back and another rockling  . Blanking isnt so bad once you come to terms with it  , its purifying for the soul and makes you stronger :lol:If I keep saying this I might believe it eventually

Had to wear the missus' coat one night in Bray Ger , i forgot my own, nothing worse, except maybe forgetting your bait, or your rod, or your reels, or your lamp, or your lunch, or your stool, or your tripod,or your phone, come to think of it, i've forgotten all of those at one time or another

Cheers Baza, i was a bit like that over Christmas myself, with the snow, and bad roads, but i'd have to get out at least once a wek , even in the winter, its good for the soul, if nothing else
