early morning on mayo mark 28/01/11

#1 Post by saving private brian »

People; me and a mate

Duration; 05.00am-11.30am

Tide; low water @ 05.30am

Weather; absolutely gorgeous.like a summers nite.wind,,,,,E to S/E

Bait; macks,lugs,sandeels,whitebaiit,squid

Rigs; 3 hook and 2 hook highlights

Result; plenty of flounders to the size in the pic.1xseatrout(38cm) and small coalies

Report; with the weather being mild i planned an early session as i would not be able on friday nite.had rang me mate and told him of the plan but he didnt give me a definite answer whether he was going to join me a 06.00am.i prepared myself to go alone anyway.got all the bait and gear ready the nite before.set me alarm for 6am but was awakened early by a text to which was from me mate sayin he was up for it.got up then at 03.45am and had a cuppa while i waited for him to call in.i was glad to have him as it was still dark and nice to have company on the beaches in the dark.got to our venue and was nearly flat calm with a little waters edge surf.a small bit dissapointed but got on with it.we both had our 2 rods baited and out for around 5am or a little after.even though it wasnt cold i had a firelog and a couple of sods of turf in a bucket i had with me so we both got a fire goin.the first hour or 2 was quiet with the odd small flounder.they werent big enof to give the rod a knock.had 1 rod on the gripper and 1 on a rolling lead.the dawn came on us at around 07.30am and it was after this we started to pick up some better flats.i had to go up to my box to get something while i left me mate in charge of all the rods to which when i came back i had noticed 1 of the rods line had gone slack.my mate is only new to fishing and does understand it fully yet.i immmediately picked up the rod and brought in a seatrout of 38cm.it was first for 2011 so was thrilled.my mate has never caught 1 so when he seen mine his own confidence grew but unfortunately he never seen his one on this session.we both chatted on for the rest of the session and picked up a few flats along the way.i tried so hard to get him a turbot as he has never seen 1 but i had no luck with the baits in the small surfwe started to pack up just after 11am as we both had enof.we both enjoyed it and are planning another session soon maybe before the weekends out

Another great session Brian, well done. Congrats on getting your first seatrout of 2011, the first of many for you hopefully 8) I can't wait to try for them again myself this year. After getting a few at the end of the season last year I really have got the bug for them now, they fight like crazy, especially on light tackle, great crack!
Some nice flounder too, great report and pictures.
