Report:Downhill/Benone
Was due to fish White Rock Beach on Sunday but the comp was cancelled due to the death of John Black. I had lug already dug and rag ordered from Dougie in Portrush so jumped in the car and headed to Port to lift the rag. I had intended to fish somewhere in Portrush but decided to hit Downhill to see if there were any Bass about. Arrived about 4.30 and saw another angler just setting up so i got my gear ready and soon had a line in the water. First cast a treble shot of flounders. This gave me hope of a good session. Over the next few hours as the tide filled flounder after flounder was landed but nothing of real size. Things then got really quiet so i put my gear in the car and drove along the beach to give Benone a try. I set up near the army range but an hour later i had no fish to show for my efforts so i packed up at 11 and headed for home. As i was leaving the beach a car was coming towards me and as i passed it, it turned and came up after me. Didn't really think much of it until i got out onto the main road when they turned their blue flashing lights on and pulled me in. I got out of the car and with 2 cops greating me and being very cautious while approaching me! They told me that they had recieved reports of suspicious activity on the beach. I replied that i was only fishing but could understand as i was so close to the army camp. They then proceeded to search my car and asked for my license. They didn't search the car for to long as it was stinking of fish!
Culdaff/Moville
Had loads of rag left over from Sunday so waited till late afternoon and hit the road again. Arrived at Culdaff and set up the gear and the fishing was hectic from the word go! It was pretty mad with treble shots of flounders, coalies and coalies! Everything was on the small side but it was a brilliant session! Stuck it out for about 3 hours then decided to pack the stuff and head down the raod to Moville peir. Theres something about this peir that i love and even though i mostly blank when i go there i keep going back! The wind had really picked up at this stage and i knew i wasn't gonna catch anything but stuck it out for a while but the only thing i was doing was feeding the crabs! Packed up and hit the road.
It was a pretty enjoyable couple of days fishing and i really wasn't expecting so many fish. Can't wait to get out again! 52 fish for my efforts! Not bad!
