Cork harbour mark 20th Jan 2011

#1 Post by evan699 »

Pleople: Me, Fishy and darrenh
Time: 6ish to 9.15
Tide: Dropping fast
Bait: Mack, Razor and peeler
Rigs: 3 hook flappers and 3/0 pulley pennels
Weather: Cold

Decided to fish a local mark as i didn't have the money to pay for petrol for a spin to youghal. I wasn't expecting much from this mark but we gave it a go anyway. Me and fishy headed down after work and met darrenh who was already fishing the mark. We blasted all manner and size of baits in all directions and at all distances to try to find the fish. Got chatting to darren for a while, swapped a few fishy tales and that kind of thing. Sound lad only for the fact that he outfished us  After chatting for a few minutes i went to reel in and rebait my rod and the weed was after coming on very bad. It took a while to get my end tackle in due to the weight but i was glad to see a nice plump codling of about 2 lbs swinging off a bundle of weed. I got the rods back out in the water and carried on chatting away with the lads. Fishy had a few little nippers, 2 codling and a whiting i think. The rest of the night revolved around 2 more lovely codling that darren caught. The first of them was 2lb 6 oz, supper sorted for him. A few minutes later we were chatting away when his rod got pulled off the ground but settled again very quickly so we thought it was just weed again but as he reeled in we could see another nice codling kicking his way up the tide. We got this one with a few snaps and onto the scales, 2lb 4oz. I think. Darren also caught the two fish on the one peeler bait as he didn't bother re baiting after hooking and landing the first  He gave us a few peelers which was much appreciated but we didn't have any more luck for the night. He stayed on after we left so he might have a bit more to add to the report later. Grand night out and we all caught something so it wasn't a waste of time. :D

Also had a few coalies on monday night off youghal strand when me and fishy had a cast down there. I'll add the photos to this report as i can't be bothered doing a separate one.

Thanks lads. Grand size to them alright. Glad to be avoiding the smaller ones for the last few sessions.

Thanks tom. I'd say we haven't seen the last of them yet. With the cold that came in the last few days again i'd say they'll be around into late feb early march like last year. Hopefully anyway. Keep us moving till the summer species decide to grace us with their presence.

Well done mate some nice fish there, from the pics I know where you were, the pub is a bit of a give away, as is the wood on the pier. Good luck and I am sure the cod will hang about for a few weeks more, hope so anyway. I had heard that up the road a bit was fishing OK again too, know a man who live close and he takes walks down that way and saw some nice fish caught the last few days.

Regards Wez

I wasn't trying to hide the mark. I've no bother letting people know where the fish are if i'm catching them. I just usually don't name my marks in posts because you never know who'd be snoopin around on the web.

I've decided to chase down the fish instead of waiting for them to come to me. That's when i can afford the petrol  It seems to be working so far anyway so happy days. :)
