Results: Coalie, CODLING and shore rockling
Had my first ever proper winter fishing session ever in Dublin this weekend. Had been planning to get out recently but weather got the better of me. Bought the bait and headed for east pier. We hadn't prepared in terms of rigs and sufficient torches but that didn't stop us. Straight away i got a big bang and was hit by a coalie. It made a good account of itself diving for the kelp and when I finally got it in was surprised at its size, perhaps 2lbs. Not a bad start considering last winter all I caught were pin whiting
Today I decided on Killiney beach fishing into the underwater reefs. Hopes were high for codling as the water was on its way in, it was getting dark, and there was also a nice swell. Not long after setting up Rob was into a shore rockling. It went quiet enough, but having said that bite detection was very tough as there was a big wind. Eventually my codling came, and at perhaps a pound and a half I was delighted! I got another smaller codling maybe an hour later that was about 25cms. It was great craic and i caught my first half decent codling! There was a competition to our right and one man we were talking to had three shore rockling. Another had a decent codling.
