north connemara co galway 8th jan 2011

#1 Post by gfkelly1969 »

People:myself

Duration:14:30 to 19:00

Tide:high 19:39 4.5m

Weather:very strong gales, very cold north wind and showers

Bait:mackerel,sandeel,squid

Rigs:2 hook flapper,3 hook flapper

Results:2 dogfish

Report:I went out to try and find a few new marks,it was hard to find spots to fish safely as the wind was so strong
I set up on a beach and had to hook the seatbox to the rod stand to stop it falling over
I spent a hour on the beach and didn't get any bites so packed up and headed for a bit of shelter on a pier
I set up again and had one rod in close and another at distance,I was getting small bites on the rod in close but no hook ups
as i was packing up i saw the rod at distance getting small bites,i thought it might be pin whiting,i gave the rod another 10 mins and then started to reel in,it felt heavy and i reeled i a double of doggies, blank saved and first fish of 2011 landed :D :D

I don't mind the doggies,I never really get plagued by them
tight lines wrote:yes ger i cant wait looking forward to geting back down for the ray and a session with yourself when do thay start to show up in numbers?
in clifden bay I start getting them in numbers from the middle of may onwards but at the mark we fished before I would say they will show up in numbers a lot earlier,we will have to fish out side the mark any more as the farmer has put up no entry signs
