Happy New Year from D'Dee Pier, Co Down 01/01/11

People: Just Me

Duration: 6pm - 9pm

Tide: Pushing, 3-4ft Swell

Weather: Bit of easterly, had been raining but remained dry for the session itself.

Bait: Lugworm & White Rag

Rigs: 2 Hook Loop, 2/0 Penell Pulley

Results: 4 Coalfish, 1 5B Rockling

Report:
With the species list reset, it was time to start building it up again, so decided on a go at Donaghadee tonight. 2pm went to Millisle beach to dig worms, heart sank as the rain was really coming down while I was digging, but spent an hour n a half in it getting a wee bucket of Lugworm anyway.

Go to Donaghadee for 6 to find it dry! Result! However the light at the railings is currently off, which makes fishing it a bit different. Loaded loops onto both rods fished one in the middle, and one out the mouth of the harbour. The rod out the mouth saw the first action with my first Coalfish of the year! Happy days! It was very slow with another 2 coalfish showing up til 8pm.

Decided to go all out in the last hour, and put a Penell Rig out the back... went back to watching the loop in the harbour, which still wasn't producing anything... Checked the Penell a while later to find another coaly hanging on it. Really loaded the bait on for the next cast, 3 Lug and 2 white rag for attraction, walloped it back over the wall and went back to check the still untouched baits in the harbour. Finally when I was packing up retrieved the big bait to find a greedy wee rockling holding onto it for dear life.

First session of 2011, First 2 Species... great fun!

Cheers Tom, though a couple of our boys are out on the Boat today, Heard one had a Huss of 10.5lb and a 20lb Conger... Thats the real way to kick things off!

They're very nice! lol, had mine out on some local rough on the 30th, performed brilliantly.
