Good all round multiplier for Beginner ?

Hi, thinkning of investing in a multiplier for beach casting. Any suggestions as the best model for a beginner with multipliers and not overly expensive TIA

You looking one with a levelwind or not? Personally I'd go for one without. You will pick up laying the line on in no time at all. Loads of reels on ebay or brand new Akios reels good value

Id reccomend a reel with magnetic braking,its easier to control and easily adjustd with a turn of the knob. imo the best shore fishing multiplier out there is the daiwa 7ht mag, expensive but you get what you pay for.

okuma magnetix cost about 65 euro cheap and great reel easy serviced has,nt let me down yet and i,ve 3
bought the first 3 years ago and would,nt buy any orther reel has 6 to 1 ratio very fast

The Akios range are well worth a look, great value for money. I've been thrashing mine for a few months now and can't fault them. The 656CTM is very user friendly for beginners.

second the Okuma Magnetex Great little reel. I've been using one on the boat for years without any hassles. The are not as good as an Akios or Abu 6500 for out and out distance, but this wouldn't be an issue for a regular angler.

Go for the 20size without level wind as Stevie mentioned. Level winds have no place on the beach.

Thanks guys for the info. Looking over the various suggestions. As i say beginner with multipliers but whats are the two options discussed a. Levelwind, and b. magnetic (Is this to do with braking on cast ?)

Do you guys tend to buy online . I look at a site glasgow angling centre but would like an irish alternative if possible.

Level wind and magnetic are not options, your options are level wind and non level wind, magnetic is in relation to the braking of the reel itself, some interesting reading here on various types of braking: http://www.japantackle.com/Topics/brake_system.htm I would recommend a non level wind, a level wind restricts casting distance greatly and leaves it difficult to undo birdsnests Line lay is very easily picked up, as StevieR stated, I started off using a fixed spool, progressed to level wind multiplier and if I'm honest used it maybe twice, if even that, before getting a 7ht mag.

To be honest I buy most of my gear online, I try to use Irish companies most of the time but if there is a substancial difference in a price it's the cheaper one hands down wherever it may be based, do not rule out your local tackle dealer also, first hand information and assistance they can provide can be invaluable, my local tackle dealer just doesn't cater for my needs I find Glasgow Angling Centre to be quite overpriced in general, love having a look through their clearance section though for stuff I don't need

put up a wanted ad in the for sale section of the site someone will have a spare one they will be willing to flog ,normally 4 or 5 a month swap hands dont spend a mint as you may just not get on with them and stick with fixed spool,7ht mag or abu 6500 mag would be good reels to learn on but the 7ht mag is silly money in my opinion(cos i,m a cheap old git )

I got a Abu 6500 green mag here on the site for 50 euro. Mint condition perfect for learning as I had never used a multiplier before.

Thanks guys might just do that. No point splashing out on multiplier if i go back to fixed spool.Good advice. Only came across this board this week but can see myself getting hooked as there's great advice and everyone willing to share. Cheers again.

I was like yourself, looking for a cheap but good multiplier, ended up with the 7ht bought off ebay for £50 second hand!

Haven't looked back since absolute brilliant job for a beginner (like my self),

And now i have asked Santa for the 7ht mag......... fingers crossed!!!

Guys thanks for all the advice on here. I have gone for the 7HT Millionaire. Picked up a new one on the for sale site here for €85 so think its a good deal all round. Next thisg will be to avoide the birds nests soup !!!!!!!!!

Hi Guys. Just to say invested in Daiwa 7HT. Used it yesterday for first session and already think its a cracking reel. Casts beautifully. Handle is little bit on small side but its a very tidy reel anyhow.
