Cushendun Beach 21st Nov 2010

#1 Post by Tony T »

Time: 16:00 - 23:30 (High water 22:30ish)

Weather: 9mph NE wind, Full moon, Cloudy.

Bait: Lug and mackeral.

Results: 2x Dogs, 2x Flounder, 6x Pin Whiting, 1x Coalie.

Tides and weather looked good so took a notion to see if there were any decent cod at Cushendun. Arrived up and was straight into a flounder and coalie on the 1st casts so I thought...happy days. Turned out to be a slow enough night with only a handful of small whiting and a half decent, foul hooked flounder caught. The latter being an amazing and exciting fight followed by disappointment! Highlight was probably the sport from the two dogs at the end.

Not the worst fishing I've had there by any means, but I reckon there are half decent fish there somewhere! It doubt the bright full moon helped me much.

I do have photos but they are all 2MB+ so until get them reduced i can't add them. The fish were nothing out of the ordinary anyhow.

Cheers.

Tony,

I had a short spell on Cdun beach on Sat afternoon, fresh easterly blowing, pile of dead seaweed on the beach(as Im sure you saw) but thankfully none in the water. It was far too rough for the rock mark I wanted to fish so I headed to the beach. Fishing old rag and squid, nothing happenned til dusk then lots of bites, I caught 1 coley about 10oz. Had to go just as it was starting to get interesting, dinner out at 6.30pm.

2 other fellas arrived and set up just as I was leaving, I wonder how they fared.

You did a bit better than I did.

Cathal.

Aye it definitely fishes better in the evening. I was last up in September and got pretty much the same number of fish and in a competition I'd probably done quite well with the counters.

I know what you mean about the weed cathalger, it was there couple of months ago but the water was clear thankfully.

I'll be giving it another couple of goes before the year is out I reckon.

There was a 7lb salmon taken on that beach this summer on a spinner during a pollack feeding frenzy. The sandeel were in in a huge shoal. The fella that caught it only took the rod out of the car when he saw all the surface activity.

I didnt see the fish myself but quite a few onlookers did. I just wonder was it a big sea trout wrongly identified. Would make more sense a sea trout taking a spinner in the sea than a salmon.

Anyone want to come forward with a bass report from Cdun in recent years? I hear it can be done.

My brother caught a 2lb bass of it about 12years ago. I've had keeper plaice and cod off this beach but again that was years ago :-P
