Firstly, of course there are quota's in place for all fishing vessels, irregardless of size. What evidence do you have that "100's" of boxes of cod are been landed from the Suir? It's a river that I've fished quite a bit over the past 8 years. I'm aware that some trawling for cod does occur during the winter months, but I'm almost certain that it is nothing as intensive as you portray it. Having worked with local marine agencies it is an acknowledged problem, however it is not deemed to be significant. If you suspect that a boat is illegally fishing you can contact the SFPA (sea Fisheries Protection Agency) in Dunmore East on 051 383135. Be sure to note the date, time and name and number of the boat.
