People: Me and Bassmania

Duration:5pm - 12.30am

Tide: Outgoing

Weather: Cold and breezy

Bait: Peeler Crab

Rigs: Pennells

Results: 9 coalie, 6 codling and 3 whiting

Report: This was our first trip out in ages so we had a notion that the one species that has eluded us is cod so we decided a cod session was on the cards, due to a lack of cod where we fish we decided to hit towards Cork. We stopped off at Dan's place in halfway Angling Centre and stocked up on peeler crab, i could spend a day in that shop :D stocked up with bait off we set for the mark, we were set up and fishing for 5pm on the out going tide. With in minutes on landing the coalies got stuck into our baits, good bit of crack with fish up to about a pound :D at about 8.30 Bassmania shouted down would a foul hooked baby Cod count, 8) 8) his first Cod, with the sign of the wee one we were hopeful that a mammy or daddy cod might be close by. After a short while another yelp of joy came from the other lad, a lovely codling of about 1.5 pounds, at this stage the coalies were decreasing in size and stripping my baits   i truly belive at this point any codling in the area was hanging around near Bassmania
as he had another 4, thoughts of tying explosives to my traces were now running through my mind  when one of my rods took a good rattle, as i struck in i could feel resistance, this was either a decent size fish or a coalie on speed :? At last my first ever codling came to the surface, not embarrassed to say it but i was yelping like a gobshite :D :D Defo be going back down for another crack at the codling. Dinner sorted tomorrow   Right it is now about 4.30 so off to the bed

Regards

Thanks for the well done midnight, as for the photo they were not bass and were used for personal consumption, not going to go through a c&r agrument as this has been thrashed out countless times, i appreciated your point of view but i do not think in my opinion that we were excessive

Cheers cathalger, that one on its own was a lovely chunky fish, i am still grinning like a kid as bassmania and myself have never had cod before

No difference at all. If there in size and only two per head who cares what people say, it's legal. Far play on a nice successful trip Conger. I hope you enjoy them.

To back up Seamus report, this had to be the best session we had since starting out with this fishing lark. We met up with two local lads who passed on some great information and and we were glad to pass on details if they were up our side of the country, isn't that what this forum is all about!
This session added whiting to the specie list for this year and coding to the personal list for both of us. I tend to leave the reporting to shay as he has more patience than I. As you can see, most people of the same nature wish you well and pass on similar experience. However, there is always one!
I tend to be a skeptic when I see someone on this forum with such strong views and so few reports themselves. The coding went down a treat today (god bless chef Ramsey) and the session left us both with great buzz, those coding sure do put up a fight. Roll on the next outing.

Regards,
Brian
