Penn 515 Mag

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please!

was speaking to a friend this evening who was telling me he finds his a bit slow, he said he would have to get it running faster!
and that he had had a little trouble with line being caught between spool and reel a time or two when he had eased the spool float off a bit.
Not the BigPhil from Irish Angler mag, I'm the original, i swear!!!!

Straight out of the box mine one was sluggish aswell (in comparison to my 7ht mag) so opened the reel up and cleaned alot of the factory grease off the spindle and put the bearings in lighter fuel for a clean and then oiled with rocket fuel and it's running far from slow now!! Was a fairly easy job aswell!!

I got the Penn Squall 12 from the States and it is just the USA version of the 515 , Love mine and have it matched to the century TTLD or my TT sport.

As mentioned can be sped up if you want but gives good distance without touching it

Got mine a few week's ago at Gerrys and I love it. Have it loaded with 15lb F1 and its super smooth straight out of the box. The new indexed drag is a great feature, and the mag setting is much better and easier to use than the older slider. The smaller reel body is lovely to use and it still holds loads of line. It's got plenty of grunt also, ive been pulling double headers of codling out of the Mersey with it , no problem... Im giving the Penn 515mag 9/10..

Used mine for the first time tonight, I'm actually loving it, 25lb line loaded on it, and fishing a local rough mark and it performed impeccably, played with the magnetic brakes a bit, and didn't birdie the thing once. We'll see how it stands up to the test of time, but at the minute I feel like I'm onto a winner.
