Ballyliffen beach 16/11/10 and almost a disaster

#1 Post by cathald »

People: Me and Dylan and 3 other members of the culdaff sac

Duration:7.30pm-11pm

Tide:

Weather:windy but dry

Bait:mack and lug

Rigs:various

Results:coalies and flounder

Report:every 2nd tuesday we have a shore outing with the club and last evening we headed to ballyliffen beach
It started a bit slow with quite a bit of weed at the hotel side of the beach but an odd coalie was got.
some of the guys moved up the beach a bit to try and get rid of the weed and were soon pulling in the flounder,so myself and Dylan packed up the van and moved up beside them.Flounder and coalies were the order of the day but as the tide started to turn things slackened off and the usual banter and craic began.
at 11pm time up was called so we packed up the gear to head for home.

Jumped into the van and went to drive off but nothing stuck
Liam jumped out of the other car and took out a spade and started to dig out the wheel but the more we tried the more she sunk, right up to the bumper
Marc headed to Ballyliffen to see if he could get a jeep and we could here the tide filling behind us.
There was no luck in the village with a jeep so away to the next village to try.
I was panicking a bit but went really bad when Liam said it was time to get the gear out of the van just in case
At that point two jeeps appeared on the beach and soon pulled me free
so a bit thank you to those guys who pulled me out
I'd say 10 more minutes and I would have been swamped so lesson learned

I had the camera in the van but the last thing on my mind was taking photo's

Maybe the lesson here is not to drive on beaches and park there when fishing.
Can't understand how anyone who likes to get out fishing and commune with nature would want a car beside them. some people would bring their armchairs and tvs with them if they could.
The number of anglers I see driving 4x4 s on beaches in weeford where it is forbidden is unreal. Not sure of the legality of driving on ballyliffen beach.

Commune with nature......eerrr right whatever floats your boat mate I'm just out for a night's craic
I just don't want to walk a mile or so across sand laden down with gear,If I have to I will, but if I can get near in the van well I will
Might get the arm chair in next time thanks for the idea :P

Ive fished the very top of inch strand in Kerry a few times tidal movement is huge, not driving isn't an option if you want to get up there, also you can move after a few casts to cover the water better :D :D i meet a guy down there a few years back .He was driving a big jeep,he told me hes pulling cars out the hole time in summer 50 euro a time.Nice to see it all ended well in the end for you lads :D :D .
