Weather Beautiful starry night

Bait; whitebait,macks,lugs and sandeels

Rigs; flappers

Reults;flounders up to 35cm,coalies up to 41cm and palm sized turbot

Report. got to this venue very late due to the pints of black stuff  .the 2 lads came to me apartment at around 21.30..the nite was non stop rain but we didnt let this stop us so we loaded and jumped in da jeep.this mark i havent fished in a while so was optomistic.lately meself and the 2 lads have been gettin into a habbit of havin a pint of black stuff before a cast.we stopped off a pub on the way back and kept our tradition goin.headed off for the mark at 22.40 and little did we know it but we went in for round too at a pub that was beside the mark.we ended up havin 2 pints in this place with the friendly local bar lady who was makin us feel very welcome.the nite was still raining and dominic even suggested that we bring the fishing gear into the pub and start making rigs up beside the massive blazing open fire which was very attractable looking.this was looking an option but somehow we got the urge to go and in the matter of 10 mins we were on the beach with our rods out.all looked good with a decent enof surf that was contributed by the wind which now was gone northerly as forecasted.a small stream of fresh water flowed by us but we didnt let that hamper our luck.everything looked great until our biggest fear came on us in minutes of first cast.WEED WEED WEED.the lines went to the right in a min.this northerly wind in the space of a few hours had brought it in to this sheltered small bay.lost me 2 rigs so roared to all pack up or its gonna be a night of torture.all agreed.terry havin his rod out for 2 mins stilled managed a flounder of 36.just to say if there was no weed we could of got a good nites fishin.anyway packed up the jeep and went to a local mark near me.got the rods out and brought in the fish ive mentioned above.wasnt the best nite but still was productive enof.got the small turbos again at nite.there was a nice lttlle fight off the coalies.the surf was up and the nite was calm.never seen as many planes go by in me whole life.packed up around 05.00 as we had a 10 minute walk to the jeep.got into me bed at 06.00am.madness but we all enjoyed and was good to be out.we r talkin now of a session in kerry at the end of the month so hopefully the weather will favour us.

cheers brian

Maybe it was just the light in the photo or something so, but the area i circled in the photo looks like the boney lumps on the fishes head that tells it's a plaice. Hard to tell from photos.

It's a nice flounder, I've circled the bit that shows it's a flounder

(Joke by the way evan699)

The fins on a plaice are more rounded, their skin is smoother and flounder can have lumps over the lateral line too, but plaice will only have between four and seven boney nodules near the head.

here's a pic of a plaice too (courtesy of Pete davis) which will show the difference
