Illegal Nets Seized – Ahanesk, Co. Cork

#1 Post by JimC »

I understand that some illegal nets have been seized by IFI staff in the Ahanesk area of Cork Harbour.

Well done guys!

Well done IFI staff, pity they didnt stake the place out and try and get those that put them there, would be nice to see some convictions for a change.
Good things come to those who bait.

Reports also of a net close to midleton in the ownacurra estuary.Looks like the fishery boards have their work cut out to try protect the bass stocks along the east cork coast, the place has been decimated recently and these netters sole aim is to wipe the bass stocks along the south coast and thats a fact and fair play to them they are doing a mighty fine job  regarding rostellan id say the netting down there has to be for oysters at this stage  .As ive said before should the commercial fishing for them reopen legitimately then it won't make a blind bit of differance down this way as its already rampant ,and i hate admitting defeat on this one but just ask alot of the angling tourists who are bass fanatics ad they will all say the same things have gone drastically down hill since 2006 this year been one of the worst to date.Yes still good days in with the bad but overall its on a slippery slope going one way, and i thought bass were a protected species  so enjoy the good days when they arrive and if you find a few silvery fellas then best to keep the info to yourself and a few friends.

Great to hear - some people seem to live in the dark ages. It seems to me that people who net illegally feel its their right to do so. Nice to see regulation enforced successfully.

Well done to all involved. This has to be completely stopped and the only way we're going to hurt these people is with huge fines, prison sentences and to close down the buyers that they are obviously supplying. It's going on in many areas of the harbour and it's sickening. This is a potential sports anglers paradise if its managed and promoted properly. What they're doing is just mindless criminal activity.
