Nrth Wexford Beach - 30/10/10

#1 Post by Jayball10 »

Duration: 7.30pm - 2.30am

Tide: Low at 10.22pm

Weather: Slight drizzle showers, Warm, SSE wind

Bait: Mack, Sandeel, Rag, Frozen Lug, Squid, Peeler Crab, Mussel

Rigs: Pulley Pennels, Flappers, Up and Overs

Results: Dab, Whiting, Dogfish, Flounder

Report:

Not much to report but being Halloween and all...

After playing around with a few ideas we decided to head to North Wexford and try for some Codling or Coalies as we heard they've been making an appearance of late. Armed to the teeth with bait, rigs, rods and sambos we hit the mark. Weather was surprisingly nice. Warm and only a few light drizzle showers. I was lucky though I brought some extra jumpers as I waded out to the surf to chuck a bait out and got smacked by a whopper wave. Im pretty blind so didn't see it coming :) ... No worries. Had the shelter goin with the tilly lamp so t'was cozy like a warm cinnamon bun. Conditions were great with a nice roll coming in, no weed (at first) and no pesky crabs. Had the new reel with me so I was happy to land a nice Dab on it first cast. Shortly after the Whiting came on. On reeling in one I felt a bit of weight but a little weed caught the leader knot and I had to stop to rip it off. On finishing reeling there was less weight but landed a Whiting of about 25cm. On returning him to the drink what do I see but a nice bright doggie flapping around on the beach haha. Must of escaped when I was taking the weed off. That was it for me for the night. The weed came on then and caused a bit of grief. Skelly landed a nice flounder which he was happy about as he was on a bit of a bad streak lately. It was me a few weeks ago! So at about 2.30am we packed up and headed home. All night I was thinking of a lone bottle of beer in the fridge. It was was yummy! Not a very productive night at all but a few fish caught on a nice night to be out.

This report is dedicated to our good pal Aurelien who has been called back to the motherland for occupational duty's. :D I'm sure he is pulling his hair out at the moment with the lack of fishing. Word has it he was kicked out of the local pet shop for power casting into a tank of goldfish... See ya in December man.

Thanks guys :D ... You can oil your reels, makes some rigs and fill the freezer with baits ... Pin whiting fishing should be at his best when I'll be back :? ...
2 months without fishing ... I'm dying, nearly bald ... Especially that my hotel is just in front of a nice river, nice but closed :(

Dead right Dave I couldnt see a thing on with the mask. If I kept it on all night I would of been casting into the car park, baiting up my fingers, lighten smokes upside down etc...
