Co, Sligo Rock & Beach Sessions October 14, 24 & 26. 2010

#1 Post by FisherKing »

People: Myself & the Women

Duration: 5 Hours in Total

Tide: Filling & Stranding

Weather: windy & Showers

Bait: Mackerel, Limpets & spinner

Rigs: 2 & 3 Hook Flapper

Results: Garfish, Turbot, Sea Trout, Pollock, Ballan Wrasse, Corkwing Wrasse & Mackerel

Report:

14th

Managed to fit in a few quick sessions over the past couple of weeks with the first one at a rock mark for half an hour’s spinning, where I picked up a lone Garfish went to take a pic but forgot camera in the car  decided to cut my losses & try the nearby beach for a few casts. Got to the mark & baited up with Mackerel strips but fishing was slow with no bites  luckily got a Turbot on the last cast :D happy days a new species for the list & a first one I've caught from this beach.

24th

Decided to try the same beach as the 14th to see if any more Turbot were around. Arrived to a packed strand, made my way to a quiet corner & got set up with two rods one in close & the other at distance both baited with Mackerel, fishing was slow at first but just as it got dark picked up a small Sea Trout & Pollock. Can’t wait to give it a proper session in a couple of weeks with worm baits have a feeling its going to produce some good fishing over the winter

26th

Hit the rocks for couple of hours, not much to report just one lone Mackerel & a small Pollock so gave the wrasse a go insted with Limpets but they were few & Far between with just one Corkwing & one Ballan showing up they seem to be heading to the deeper water for the winter at some marks already :(

Fair play on the sea trout and turbot. That beach sounds like it definitely demands a bit more attention. Best of luck in the next session you have there.

Well done Brian. Great fishing, pictures and report. Congrats on getting the turbot, it's always nice to add a new species to the list 8) Nice seatrout too. The winter is well on the way , it gets dark so much earlier now in the evenings. It will be soon time to come off the rocks and onto the piers and beaches for safety. Hopefully you get a chance to go after the mullet again this season, I know you want to, good luck
