This comp was run all wrong i rang jim on the day of the comp and he said it was pre entry only , i was reading the penn rules and it states that all penn point comps have to take money on the day im thinking im going reporting this if you want to host a penn point comp you have to stick to the penn rules. Well done to neil tho.

On the subject of the comp, the Munster Open used to be one of the most eagerly awaited fixtures on the calendar, the past 2 years attendances have been very poor. There are no doubt a number of factors, economic and otherwise but this needs to be addressed for next year.

Preentry closing days before the comp is well out of order and entries should have been taken on the day. The weather through the early part week was atrocious, and after last years debacle where a comp went ahead when it was clear to most a day or two beforehand it should have been cancelled, who can blame people for opting to stay away. Take it away from the usual suspects beach wise as well. Do one of the Waterford clubs not want to host it, or one of the Kerry clubs for a change? Even on the likes of Tramore or Inch or similar, its a change from the same old same old on Garryvoe. Its time it moved on a bit lads. This hard line over preentry is a disgrace, I understand its done so as you have a prize fund or whatever so you can budget what to buy. How many people didnt gish because of this? For the likes as a major comp such as this, whats wrong with a cash payout based on entries received?

must agree with previous posters about the pre entry issue while clubs need a certain level of organisation and planning turning anglers away in this day and age is nothing short of a disgrace. it really makes you wonder where the host clubs motives lie.

i have to agree with the above posts turning anglers away from a beach when our sport lies in a precaurious position does nothing for the future of ourorganisation numbers are dwindling away and this is not helped by the fact the way the pre entry system is working .why not get the club secretaries to e mail a list of anglers who are willing to fish the anglers who turn up on the day pay their entrance fee if there is a shortfall the club whose angler does not show bears the fee THERE ARE TOO MANY ISSUES AND BAD JUDGEMENT RUINIG OUR SPORT

Having every, Tom, Dick and Harry, turning up and the day to enter the competition shouting “Penn Rules” just because the weather is fine. How in hells name is a club going to organise prizes and pegs.

This competition was in the diary and club secretaries were notified in advance that it was a pre entry competition.

If his rule is to be enforced then a lot of the Cork clubs will not apply for Penn Points when it is a pre entry competition

Whats wrong with Tom, Dick and Harry, turning up there money is as good as Donals, Davids and Paddys. The weather had nothing to do with it . They can peg it for 5 or 10 extra if people dont turn up the anglers who fish it might have a bit of scope.

When did you ever run a major competition?

I'm sick sh~t of anglers coming on here knocking clubs who run major Munster shore competitions when they never had to go to their local DIY, at their cost, and buy timber for the pegs. Print off the pegs and peg the beach on the day of the competition, spend 2/3 weeks haggling with tackle dealers trying to get the best deal so you can present the best prizes for the anglers.

Look at the prizes that were given out on the night OOPs your were not there so you'll never know but maybe some of the 14 prize winners will post up here and tell you what they won.

The score card and competition rule that are used in the Munster Closed Shore and the E.C.S,L, took me a lot of my own time to set up and amend over the last 4 years. I have passed that format on to anyone that requested it and they may even used in the new Irish shore league.


The bottom line is “People who throw stones at glasshouses should be careful that they may end up living in that glasshouse someday”

well done neil great result fishing was tough enough on the night.
prizes for the comp were spot on in fairness to .G.I. 50% of the anglers walked away with prizes nobody can complain about that
the complaints start with the pre entry rule being too stringently adhered too when the penn point rules are being blatently ignored. people were refused entry on the day of the comp what would be wrong with accepting entrys on the day and giving out cash prizes in place of tackle feck it dont bother even adding more prizes just let the people fish its not all about prizes and penn points for the real anglers its the thrill of match fishing. a lot of people dont know from one week to the next where the rent money will be coming from never mind if they will have the finances to fish a competition and if they do pre enter without payment they might not have the resources when it comes time to fish so they end up doing the wrong thing again by sticking the name down and not showing up lets spare a little thought for the joe bloggs angler thats living hand to mouth.
since the pre entry rule was strongly adhered to imho the penn points rule should be strongly adhered to its in the list of 2010 rules "all events must be open on the day of the competition" rules are rules so now what happens to the people who adhered to the rules and got penn points are they going too loose out on them because of someone elses ignorance seems too me that the stones are being fired out of the glasshouse

I know 3 Cork clubs, who have given their time over the years to running Munster competitions that now would not waste their time in running one again because of been ridiculed on web sites for their efforts, by people who never ran a Major competition

More a general observation Dom than specific singling out of a club/issue. Fact is, attendance in this comp is way down. I understand there were other opens held on the same weekend, Mossy Roche and something in Tralee? That obviously doesnt help, however, fact is, the Munster Open should surely take precedence over everything else, its one of our annual major comps for goodness sakes. Surely to god clubs in Munster can give this fixture the respect it deserves and avoid any clashing of dates to maximise turnout? If not, shame on them! This comp used to have a huge turnout, it used to be a massive fixture, lets see if next years can return to that. I didnt fish it personally as I was waiting to see how weather and sea conditions were to turn out, thats entirely down to what happened last year. Wasnt happy enough to take the plunge on Wednesday given awful conditions mid week so left it off. If entries had been taken on the day I would have fished it, plain and simple. Prizes are all well and good too but dont you think 14 prizes between 33 anglers is somewhat excessive? Im not knocking the work that goes into running these comps, however, it needs freshening up and it needs some variety from Youghal/Garryvoe all the time. Lets see a Waterford/Kerry Club stand up and have a crack at this. I'd love to head for one of the big open beaches, Tramore, Inch or wherever for something like this, rather than the same old same old hungry acre in Ballinwilling etc.....

With all due respected Pete the Mossy Roche date was sent into Munster council last October 2009 for their fixtures to make sure it did not clash.....and they aceppted it and included it in the diary so shame on them, this also happened the year before and we were asked to reschedule and we did and the date we were given clashed with the Jimmy Smith that weekend.
In relation to of of the Waterford clubs running one of the Munsters, we did and had prizes valued €1200 and were critised over this because the prizes were not CASH, we had reels Rods etc. we were asked to hold one of the Munster legs this year and declined it because it is not worth the hassle.

David, as you know, the vast majority of Munster comps dont have cash prizes but surely its easier from an organisational point of view to pay out related to what you take on the day? Feck the begrudgers, the last time the Munster Open was held up that way it was a success with a huge attendance, Tramore i think it was 3 (?) years ago. Current set up is not working and needs to be looked at, attendances are way down. It doesnt surprise me that nothing was done at council level to avoid a clash of fixtures, the concensus there is that Munster Open and Munster closed legs should take precedence and I have to agree but were any steps taken on either side to resolve this? Its surely beneficial to both sides not to have clashes like this, I mean, whats on in Munster this weekend? Anything major? How hard would it have been for one side to move a week? From my own perspective, I would love to head for the likes of Tramore/Inch/wherever to fish the Munster Open, Garryvoe and Youghal have been done to death this past few years. Stand up, feck the begrudgers and go again David.
