Started out on Saturday morning with plan A which was to fish the rocks at Dunseverick. Admittedly, the conditions were not the best but I made my way to my position on the rocks and having read the previous reports from this area I had a go at catching some macks. However, the sea conditions appeared to be getting worse
and having lost one trace plus a fish and water splashing all around me, I no longer felt comfortable and quickly abandoned my position and retreated to the safety of my car for a quick rethink. 
Not being far from Ballintoy I decided that I would try my luck there. I have fished this venue on a couple of occasions but without much success. On arrival I took my spot near several guys who were already set up. After getting my line in the water I went for a quick chat and they told me that they had been there from 8am and up until now they had only six mack to show for their efforts. I noted that the beach rods had not had a hit.
I decided to have a go for the macks and after three or four casts using a Mustad shrimp rig I had a launce and a small coalie but no macks. It then got a bit tight with another three guys arriving and having crossed lines
on a couple of occasions I decided to change tactics. 
The rod at distance hadn't had a hit so I started fishing in close using a scratching rig (two wire booms with size 1 hooks) tied to a 2oz weight baited with rag and mack. No sooner had I lobbed this out and the bites started with a steady stream of coalies and wrasse being landed - great craic on light gear but the best of the lot was the unexpected pollack that hit me like a steam train
and put a nice bend in my rod. Although I had no scales with me it was easy 1.5lb to 2lb and a lovely golden brown. Sunday 27 Sept 10
With the weather being much better than the day before and knowing that there were macks about I got up early and headed back to Ballintoy. I was surprised to find the place deserted but in the next few hours I had eight macks safely in the bag for the freezer.
After bagging the macks I then had another go at the wrasse and wasn't disappointed when I landed a beautiful fish with some of the best colours I have ever seen - lovely deep reds, something you would expect to find in a tropical fish tank.Good weekends sport but sorry I had no camera with me.
