Clew Bay 12th - 24th Sept

#1 Post by SUMO »

On holiday in Mulranny for last 2 weeks so had a few sessions whilst there.

14th , 16th and 20th - Mulranny Pier - fished it a couple of times and only had a few mackerel on spinner. Tried float fishing sandeel over the rocks and had pollack and coalfish, none of them massive but had 1 decent pollack which fed me and the wife

17th - Old Head - took a trip over to teh south side of the bay and fished old head rocks over high tide, tried spinning and had just small pollack. so float fished sandeel and had some sizeable coalfish.

21st and 23rd - fished a low water mark east of the golf course - Had loads of dogfish ( probably about 15 in 2 1/2 hours) Also had mackerel taking the bait on the retrieve. So I set up with a spinner and had virtually a fish a cast. Strange that off the pier a mile or so away , mackerel were few and far between. Put lugworm out on one rod but dogfish even went for that.

24th - Bertraw Strand - Last afternoon of holiday - took teh lovely walk along the strand. Loads of mackerel in the first 2 hours of flood, then died off completely.

All in all a good holiday.

Hi sumo

Next time you are down, drop me a line and I will give you better marks...

Kieran Hanrahan

Time spent fishing is never time wasted...

2015 targets - a triggerfish, a specimen bass, a three bearded rockling to complete the set and something big and toothy from certain north Mayo deep water marks
