The Shannon........Clare side 23rd September

#1 Post by baitdigger »

People: Just me

Duration:10am-2pm

Tide:about two hours each side of low

Weather: not bad, some rain, some wind , some sun

Bait:Frozen mackerel

Rigs:4/0 pennel pulley 8/0 running paternoster

Results:3dogs, 1 small huss, 2 small rays.

Report:

Fished a well known mark today, the water was the colour of a nasty vegetable soup. As the tide dropped it fished quite well and I had a few fish nothing big, the better of the rays was only pushing three pounds and the huss was about the same.
Nothing after the turn of the tide.
Crabs were not very active today and the highlight for me was not losing ang tackle for the first time on this mark.

I have noticed a massive variation in the colours and markings between the rays and huss here, ten miles down the road and North Clare.

nice to get some fish in during the daytime and a bonus with not gear loss

the ray in north clare sometimes have the black noses just like the ones over round leitermullan do - only a short spin for them!

North Clare huss are very dark almost black but the Shannon ones are a light sandy colour.
