#1 Post by drseafish »

People:2

Duration: 6:30-9:30 Youghal
10:15- 12:30 whiting bay

Tide:Low Water 9pm ish

Weather: calm dry slight SW

Bait: crab, mackeral, lug & razor

Rigs: pennells, 2 ups, 3 hook flappers

Results:

Youghal - myself 2 coddling (less 25cm), 2 coalies (32 & 35cm)
- Martin (2 coddling (small) and 1 coalie (33cm)
Whiting bay - myself 1 coalie (34cm) & 1 dog
Martin - Plaice! or a flounder with the brightest red spots and smooth lateral line I have every seen - 35cm
Report:
Deperate to get out, fishing was ok, lots of bait steeling crabs in youghal only worth leaving your bait out for max 10 mins, could have stayed in Youghal and the quality of fish may have improved but we had some lug we wanted to use to we headed for Whiting Bay. It was calm with 4 other anglers fishen on the left of the stream so we set up on the right. Took it easy used a pennel cascade in the hope of ray or dogs at distance with mackeral and razor and a second hook with lug for anything else. Martin fished the suds for flounder. Lost a couple of coalies but a pleasent night, surprised that Martin caught the Plaice from that beach, as its pretty rare. I have some photos on the phone but the quality is not great and I cannot find the USB lead to upload the pics to my pc.

Like yourself, I've been fishing Whiting Bay a lot lately with a view to some ray. No luck with the ray, but tons of flounder. I've actually been using them as a way to get some non-fishing buddies into fishing. My cunning plan seems to be working  Oddly, I found they're all being taken on mackerel--must be the time of year. Had no luck recently in Ferrypoint, but was fishing in daylight.
