Wexford Pier, Sunday, 12 September

#1 Post by Surfrod »

People: Me

Duration: 8am to 3pm

Tide: Up and then down

Weather: Perfect

Bait: Rag and mac strip

Rigs: 3 hook flapper and one up, one down

Results: 2 smoothies, one bass and an LSD

Report: Struck out at about 6am and landed on Cahore Pier at about 8am.
Geared up and lashed out 3 hook flapper at distance. Feathering with the small rod. Two or three casts later after about an hour decided to up sticks and moved on up to the next pier.
Set up and pegged out at distance. Disaster struck. Local yacht in a club competition decided to get caught up in my line and lost rig, line and nearly me good rod whipped off the rest and on top of that a birds nest to best the best in my multiplier.
Reset. About noon the rod took a right clatter and I struck. Line being stripped from my substitute reel until I jammed the brakes on. The line went from left to right until I managed to calm the savage beast. Hauled in a good smoothie reckon three pounds and slipped him back safely.
About an hour later the rod at distance gave an almighty thump and I drove the hook home. While battling to bring this one in, the small rod on the stand was doing an Irish jig in the rest. Dragged in the big rod with an LSD on the hook. Onto the small road, nice jiggle on the tip and a few short runs until I managed to lift it onto the pier. A small bass about 2lb.
About 2.30pm my beach caster got another wallop and I began to reel in. This was a great fight. All the way top the pier wall, the blighter fought gamely. Hauled it up ad there at the end of the line was a 4lb smoothie.
All fish caught on monster rag that I got from the Courtown fishing shop.
Nice trip home, whistling all the way.

Nice session and good results there. The hounds certainly do fight well.

Seemingly piers in this area have been throwing up some good hounds in teh past few months. :)
