The 3 plagues - South Wexford 5 to 10/09

#1 Post by Aurelien »

People:Me, Max and Jay

Duration:5 days

Tide:low, high

Weather:very bad and very pleasant

Bait:peelers, sandeels, lugs and macks

Rigs:all sorts

Results: 2 tons of weed, 2 bass, a dozen of macks, doggies, coalies and pollacks

Report:Holidays ... 5 days of fishing in South Wexford 8) ...
Arrived on Sunday afternoon, weather was not bad. Get the keys for the cottage and here we go for the first session ... Nice beach, nice surf and plague number 1: weed ... Not just a few around the leader knot but around 5 kg on the lead, bait, swivel and leader knot after 5 minutes in the water ... We decided to head back to base after 2 hours of pulling pack of weed after pack of weed, under very strong wind and lashing rain ... Big storm during the night, heavy rain in the morning ... Fortunately the sky cleared up, and off we go looking for weedless spots ... After an afternoon trying different beaches and finding heavy weed everywhere we finally found a small rocky cove weedless :D ... Back in the game, promises of big pollack, wrasse and conger ... And then plague number 2: Doggies ... Head back to base with a very low spirit ... A good night sleep, a beautiful weather and motivation is back ... Decided to try a spot further inside the estuary ... Looks good ... no weed ... Max hook up in a nice bass, and we were thinking that our luck was back but then plague number 3: crabs and plague number 1 back... Try differents spot all week only to be welcomed by one of the 3 plagues .... So finally we decided a trip to Hook head for a bit of fun ... And it was fun ... No weed. no crabs and no doggies only big macks, coalies and pollacks (from 1 to 2 lbs) ... And again a bonus bass for Max ... As well as 2 razor bill  ... crazy birds
Head back to Dublin under lashing rain again ... Not a crazy fishing week, but discover a new fantastic and beautiful place ... Will be back (hope the weed will have cleared ) ...

Ps: all the weed, crabs, birds and fish (except the macks and 6 coalies) have been released ...
