West connemara inshore bay

#1 Post by Caz-Galway »

People:Me and my friend Chris

Duration:1630 - 1930

Tide:High at 1930

Weather:Bright, breezy Nroth westerly bout F5

Bait:Mackeral ans squid

Rigs:Me one up one down, Chris running ledger

Results:Me bout 10 dogs + 5 huss to 11lb, Chris 8 dogs and 3 huss to 10lb. Numerous mackeral

Report: Decided to try for Huss and Ray in an inshore bay in west connemara. Anchored up and put out a small dubby bag. Straight away into dogs which we did not want. We tried to avoid them by using lip hooked mackeral heads and just concentrate on Ray and Huss. The Ray did not turn up to play. We lost a few Huss as well as landing some beauts that fought well in the strong tide. Interestingly the dogs dissapeared when the Huss moved in. I had a small hook on the 'one up one down trace' just to see if there was anything else around. Had a nice bite develop and wound down to what felt like a cracking Huss with plenty of head nodding. Turned out to have 2 huss on at once  . One was 5lb and the other 11lb. My first double huss. We could have had a lot more dogs but as I said we tried to avoid them.

Hi Caz.Well done on the huss. 8) Had the same experience the dogs
disappeared when the huss start to feed.Getting two on at one time
would give you some fight.
Cheers.
Specimens come and go but the passion is for ever.
