Another Cork angling boat catches fire and sinks

#1 Post by Mohawk »

Happened just off Capel island near Youghal today..

This was a relativity new interceptor 28 "Dignity" fortunately no one was hurt, just had one POB and he was rescued from the blaze by another private angling boat! It was ablaze from bow to stern in a matter of minutes and sank not long after... It had 2 gas bottles on board one out on deck which floated to the surface after she sank and another stowed in the fwd cabin

The Dignity is one of the boats featured on this page, there are a few photographs of her on there!

I'm not sure of the owners name but you are probably right as it is the Interceptor 28 that is based in Youghal.. It used to be moored just off where the charter boats have the pontoon each summer.

just heard about it on the radio. He was lucky to get a may-day in before it sank and he was rescued by a passing fishing boat. Lucky lad.
Good things come to those who bait.

He was indeed very lucky he was rescued by a boat named "Coolrue"

Martin Colfer who owns the charter boat "Rebecca C" from Youghal also played a very important roll in keeping the coast guard radio station and the Ballycotton lifeboat in the picture during the indecent and both boat crews deserve praise for their efforts in making it have a good outcome

Holy Moly,

Good job there was another boat in the area...that Guy would've had to dunk himself which might have had a completely different outcome. Thanks be to god he's safe !!
