Sligo tope

#1 Post by Kerryman »

Quick session at the weekend in the surf. One rod in close picked up the usual flounder, turbot and sea trout, while one rod at distance showed very little interest for the first hour. On my fourth cast after having retrieved about 30 yds I hit what I assumed was a sandbank until it started moving very rapidly in the opposite direction and exploded out of the water. I've had tope take a bait on the retrieve before but it still takes a while to register whats going on. A nice fish which put up a great scrap in the shallow water. I had hopes of a few more but as dusk approached the dogs took over and that was that.

nice tope kerryman.i was on dat beach a few weeks back and wen i got there it was dark and as u said once nite comes there its like being in a kennel.the dogs come on heavy and u will not get another fish.i mite try that place again earlier in the day coming on to dusk soon.normally throws up a good surf.fair play to you gettin a tope as that beach isnt that steep.just shows u how far the tope come into feed

pretty shallow, no more than 6 feet I'd say
Al and Jordan wrote:outstanding achievement from the shore man 8) 8) . what weight do you reckon it was??
Probably put it at 40 lb. I had a scales but was in such a rush to get it back and get fishing again as usually once you get one there are lots more about that I didnt bother weighing
