East coast Soiree

#1 Post by Al »

People:me, M.b3 & My mate Gar

Duration: 8.00-12.30

Tide:Rise

Weather: calm with no breeze

Bait:mackerel, sandeel, rag and crab

Rigs: clipped downs and flappers

Results: Spotted Ray, Huss, Dogs, pup tope, Smoothies, dabs, flounder, whiting, weaver and gurnard

Decided to go out for a shot at Raymonds and dogs, the weather looked perfect with no wind and a flat sea, About 15 mins into my first cast I got a weird knock on the rod, it looked like someone had kicked the tripod, nothing else after that so I decided to leave it for another 10 mins, I reeled in to find a dab and the head of a whiting...looks like a tope took a shine to the whiting, the other lads I think had the same results with dabs except they had the unfortunate pleasure of bringing in full whiting. The next cast saw a Tope trace going out with a whiting flapper as bait, a few small tugs from dogs on it but no Tope. Gar had started catching dogs then and Mark had caught some gurnard, a flounder and a weaver so I decided that 45 mins was enough time to leave out the Tope trace, I'd been there an hour and a half and only had 2 casts. Sent out a 3 hook clip down rig with sandeel, about 10 mins into the cast I saw a slight knock on the rod and then it started bouncing like someone was pulling the line, Mark called over and I noticed his rod was doing the same thing, we bought started to retrieve and I felt a nice weight on the rod and I noticed Marks rod had a nice bend in it too, then my line parted..Great. I put the rod down and went over to Mark who was still trying to get this fish in, Then saw this monster Huss appear in the surf, I grabbed it by the tail and then realised how big it was as it try to bite my arm :D the power in this fish was unreal and easily 10lb, to say mark was chuffed would be an understatement, the next few castS resulted in more dogs, dabs and whiting, then mark brought in a triple shot of a small spotted Ray, dog and pup tope, I reeled in and also had a small Spotted Ray and a pup Tope happy days :D Next cast went out and was busy talking on he phone when I heard a thud and noticed my rod was on the ground and making it's way towards the sea after a nice fight I brought in a nice size Starry smoothie of at least 6lb, We had another 2 or 3 casts after that and we caught a few more Dogs. Grand auld session with a nice variety will try get some pics up later :)
