Kilmore Quay

#1 Post by Danshane »

Hi, myself and a couple of friends are thinking of heading to Kilmore Quay on Saturday with our boats.
Looking for info on the slip etc, advice on marks, what to target (we have no set plan) and the tactics to use there?

Wouldn't be an area I'm too familiar with myself.
Did you try a search for "kilmore" on here?
The slipway looks superb. I think there is a charge for launching. I hear a lot about fishing around the Saltees.
Failing that take the M7 and M8 to Cork instead

Went down to Kilmore Quay this morning. Unfortunately the weather and a sea sick mate meant we only got to stay inland from The Saltees, so I will have to return again to hit Steyrman's spots.

Managed to have plenty of sport with lively Pollock, Gurnard, Cod and small mackerel on various lures. Had a long silver pirk (six inches 200g) below a firetail jelly worm on one rig and it was taken by Gurnard and Pollock not much bigger.

Tried trolling a couple of lures along the strand with no luck but the surf was rolling onto the beach and it screamed bass. First time I've ever been on a boat wishing I was on the shore.

Lost a couplke of rigs I tied yesterday to bad knots, Lost them to snags not fish.
Anyone any advice on rig knots?

Very enjoyable day though. Kept a couple of Cod for tomorrows dinner.
The seals that followed me to the slip were dissapointed.
