Is it legal to buy/sell these?

I suppose there is some loophole like Garda radio scanners where they are legal to buy but illegal to use :?:

i think you can own a net without a license but its only for personal use.you cant sell your catch. your prohibited from fishing nets near an esturary ,you cant take bass, seatrout or salmon but everything else is fair game.its the same with lobster pots i asked a local fisheries officer how many pots was i allowed without a license he told me as many as my boat could hold as long as i wasent selling them.but he also warned me of how accidents happen to boats taking money out of lobstermens pockets

Correct :D It then also depends on how the nets are mounted and how they are actually fished, that ad is very vague so who knows what the nets are.. 50ft aint a whole lot of net for any commercial fisherman to be interested in buying what ever they are though

The Dept of Marine, BIM, or the CFB would be able to tell you!

The way it is set up means the way the the net is mounted on its frame usually on a foot rope and head rope it can be mounted to float or sit on the sea bed. Floating nets are generally used for Salmon, Trout, Mullet, mackerel, herring etc... Bottom nets are what are generally referred to as gill nets and are used for the bottom dwellers but can also be shot in shallow water where they fish both options  BTW both are perfectly legal to use by some types of licenses so dont interfere with any net ever legal or otherwise..

If the net is being used by a legal an licensed fisherman he will get drunk off no end a bit like any of us would finding someone interfering with our cars vans etc you don't know what any ones reaction would be to you his first impression of you will be one of you running his gear to steal his catch and he wont be wanting to hug you  !

If it's illegal report it, but stay well away from it for two reasons, firstly you are tampering with evidence and even more importantly you don't know what way a poacher will react to you

I think the numbers of the relevant authorities are listed on this site somewhere if you ever need to report any incident go that route :!:
