fishing achill

#1 Post by southaussie »

People: Me and my family

Duration: from 17:00 hrs to around 21:30

Tide:high tide was 19:45 ish

Weather: great sunny

Bait:lug, sandeel, mackeral, cooked king prawns lol

Rigs:loads of different types

Results:many mackeral, a plaice and a flounder and a dogfishy lookn thing i think

Took the family for a quick last minute holiday on lovely Achill, dug worms with the kids near achill great worm spot and headed to Keem beach for high tide, arrived around half five and set up whilst the kids played in the beach. baited up a single hooked rig with mackeral and threw it out, whilst setting up my second rod i saw a bite so quickly threw out second rod and reeled in and to my surprise a mackeral my first of the beach bottom fishing, the mackeral kept on coming every time i threw it out giving all the kids a great time reeling in the rod and finding a fish on it they were all delighted. as it started to become dark a large bite was on so i reeled it in and found a dogfish i think on the end, 5 mins of trying to remove the hook after it bit through the line and my wife returned him to the surf, a few flatfish were landed on my second rod but no turbot (targeted fish) but a great night had by all.
