enniscrone beach 27/08/2010

#1 Post by saving private brian »

People; myself,taz and john

Duration; 06.30pm-11.30pm

Tide; hw@08.30pm

Weather; breezy at first with N-NE winds but settled as nite fell.

Bait; macks,lugs,rags,crabs,sandeels whitebait.

Rigs;flappers,pulleys and paternosters

Results; loads of small tiny flounders and dabs bar 1 fine flounder that taz caught.

Report; got a text from taz(dominic) at around 03.00pm to see if i was available for a cast in the evening.we havent had a cast together in a while and i agreed.picked enniscrone as our venue which is only 16 miles from me so was very suitable for me too.got there at around 06.00pm and there was a niced few surfers and swimmers there but did expect alot more.the surf was small but frequent.so we set up and were fishing from 06.30pm.the water was very mucky looking and there was a good bit of weed there too.the moss type weed and it brought our lines with it but we let it go ahead and do wat it wanted.as our lines were being dragged we picked up plenty of flats like dabs and flounders but they were only the palm of your hand size some even smaller.they got more plentyful as the nite fell in and the dark came.we all changes our rigs and hooks to larger sizes to minimise these little flats to which dominic was the only one to get lucky as we were getting ready to head home.he brought in a nice flounder maybe 40-50cm at the latter end.we all enjoyed our nite bar all the small fish as it was good to be out again.so a tip for any1 maybe tryin enniscrone is to up ur hook sizes to stop the wee fellas and hopefully get some of those bigger ones.i think dominic had a size 4 on when he got that big fella

Brian

the weed can be a bloody nightmare brian :x . but fair play for sticking it out and getting some fish, espically the big flounder taz got. 50cm would put it around the 2lb mark. so well done 8)

Good fishing, my flounder from that beach the other week was 42cm at 2lb so I would say anything at 50cm is in specimen country. Nice to see dabs about, I was fishen with size 1 hooks and didn't get any dabs. The beach is fishen a lot better these days. Well done.

Gotta luv them flats, found a shoreline full of them a few miles from the house. Must give them a bash after reading this. :)
