Red Bay - Thursday, 19th August

#1 Post by damienmc »

After a very long drive, having stopped off to buy lug in Carrickfergus (highly recommended and good value), I started fishing on a rising tide. Weather was initially warm but breezy. I had intended to fish after dark but the rain put paid to that.

I'll get my whinge out of the way first. The rock mark was an absolute f**king disgrace (see picture). All kinds of litter left by other anglers so I spent 10 mins gathering up as much as I could and putting a match to the combustible stuff.

First hour I got lots of bites and three smallish codling. Two pan sized. After that things slackened off but I ended up with two more codling, a small pollack and a tiny coalie.

Duration: 15:30 to 20:30

Weather: dry and windy then wet and windy

Bait: lug & mackerel

Results: 5 codling, 1 pollack and 1 coalfish

fair play for tidying up the rubbish! i have done the same on many occasions. it makes you wonder how bad these places would get if it wasnt for a few decent anglers tidying up!

keep up the good work!

We were at a mark at the weekend very close to where you were.

We tidied a bit on the Friday. When we went back the next morning it was nearly as bad as before we left it. Exactly the same thing happened on Saturday night. We left a mark tidy at teatime. Others moved in while we were away getting fed & topping up on bait. When we moved back after they left the place was a tip. 12 empty cans of beer, 2 plastic off-licence bags & 3 empty plastic bait bags.

On both occassions the only others fishing were locals, not FNs.

I just packed in trout fishing in the carrickfergus decal lakes because of the rubbish some mindless bas***ds leave. At least at this shore fishing you can find your own tidy marks, away from the well known ones that you can have to yourself. I like to chill out, fresh sea air, and no crap blowing around my feet!!!

Well done mate, and also on the rubbish. My over run Mark at dunseveric is the same and my daughter is the first to get a bag and pick it up. So to those who like dumping it my daughter will find you. Lol

Nice fish, shame about the mess though. Well done on cleaning it up.
Good things come to those who bait.
