Report:First time really posting on hear lads but use the forum regularly to get tips and info as i,m new to fishing(6 months)having said that it feels longer cos i,m out at least 2-3 times a week(love it) ...

The main reason i decided to make a report is because of what i seen there tonight,in the last few months i,ve seen small pods of what i taught were dolphins but tonight i seen 3 massive dolphins far bigger and faster than the ones previous they were about 200 metres out and moving faster than i,ve seen any boat they were jumping i would say 6 feet out of the water it really was something special,there were a few more fellas spinning there not sure if there on hear or not but if they are they,ll say the same.could anyone tell me is this normal and what type they might have been??

One more thing there were loads of fish jumping there tonight only a few feet away from me and none would take any of my lures it was the first time i seen this too..would i be right in thinking these are sea trout???? if not maybe someone could tell me..thanks in advance

It sounds like it was an interesting night anyway Tony! Those Dolphins would have been brilliant to see Im interested in the jumping fish though... its a puzzler

Lucky you Tony ,,,,,,,,,,,I saw dolphins there a few weeks ago, they were bottlenose dolphins,you should report the sighting to the IWDG. The previous smaller ones were probably porpoises.Welcome aboard btw

sounded like a lovely evening , id say they were sea trout
jumping .next time your heading out try time your fishing so
that you have a rising tide going into darkness this should make a
hugh diffrence welcome to the site and keep the reports comming

no but i do know your supposed to have a licence to fish for them ,only ever got one little one off greystones on a strip of mac on a flounder rig,i take it you where up by the stream past the driving range ,its not exactly stuffed with fish ,fished it last week , doggies all night out over 100 yards and only a small flounder in close a few days of easterly wind might help liven the fish up a bit

Theres a pod of porpoise around there at the moment, there were about 20 or so about 250/300 m out cruising the length of the beaches, there was also alot of bird activity( the feathered type,pity!) the same distance out last weekend, way out of casting range. Its been a very poor year for Macs so far from the shore out that way, I wonder does it have anything to do with the amount of bootlace weed about, theres loads of it this year for some reason, can't get a lure through it but there are also plenty of Pollock about when you do manage to get the lure in and I'd say the fish that were jumping very close were more than likely smaller Pollock or Coalies.

The fish jumping were probably sea-trout, I have seen plenty of them this Summer in Greystones.
