People:myself,nephew,nieces,brother in law

Duration:14:00 to 15:15 and 16:00 to 18:00 and 20:00 to 01:15

Tide:all stages

Weather:sunny,dry and windy

Bait:rag,sand eel,mackerel,feathers

Rigs:various

Results:2 thornback ray,2 dogfish,1 mackerel

Report:the nephew, nieces were talking about going fishing for a long time so I said I would bring them,i thought my ray mark might be the best spot to take them to as it is fenced off,all them are under 7 so hard to keep a eye on
set up and after 10 mins I saw a bite and started to reel in and felt a fish on so I gave them all a go to try and bring it in,none of them could move the fish and when i tried i found it hard too,got the line near the shore and saw 2 ray on
thornbackLR3071.JPG
thornbackLR3072.JPG
they were all delighted to see the ray and to see them swim off again and I was asked 100s of questions
they got board soon after so we hit off to the pier to see is any mackerel about,I had one at distance but none in close, they were delighted again to see the fish
after dropping them home and eating the dinner I hit off to another mark I hadn't fished in awhile and had 2 dogfish at the mark

thanks,if you want to head to connemara I will show you to a mark that will produce ray for you
bigbadtom wrote:Two lovely ray there well done. Are they tags in the ray wings.?
thanks, the ray in the first photo was 3lbs and the one in the second photo was 7 and 1/4 lbs, they are tags in the wings they are the first fish I have tagged,if you catch any fish with tags you can contact Inland Fisheries Ireland http://www.fishinginireland.info/contact.htm just give them as much information about the weight, length, tag number, date and location where caught
they don't need the body of the fish so the tagged fish can be released again
some more information on tagging here http://www.fishinginireland.info/sea/sconserve.htm

I am surprised ye didn't get more then that, maybe it was the way the wind was blowing, when I was at the pier I didn't see any birds around normally there would be 5 or 6 gannets diving, hope the next time is better for ye
