new boat. dejon 14 25hp engine.

#1 Post by niallb73 »

ok, so i had been looking for a boat now for a long time and finally bougt one last week.
i bought a dejon 14 with a 25hp engine.
i will be mainly using her for winter pike fishing but am wondering what would she be like on the sheltered inshore waters say in around and just outside harbor and the like.??

has anybody on the site ever owned one of these boats?, what did/do they think of them ??

any information on the boat would be great as there does not seen to be much about them on the net ??

many thanks,

i read on quite a few sites stating that they were very unstable in any sort of water and were prone to coping over !!

i have to say it did dampen my spirits somewhat, so i have now been scouring the net to read good reports about the boat to put my mind at ease.

if you google "dejon 14" pretty much the first 10 results are running the wee boat down.

i quess i will just have to wait and see !!

Might I suggest getting a raido so you can both hear weather warrnings and call for help (which I hope you never have to) Its a little like car insurance- you hope you never need it but are glad when you have to.

I think you are looking at this a little wrong. The opinions on the dejons that are out there are generally correct IMO. If you keep asking the same question to put your mind at ease then you are really only going to end up fooling yourself into thinking that all is fine and thats a false sense of security. Out at sea thats not good.

I was briefly out looking at a dejon a few years ago before I got a strikeliner. We were out on Ree in the dejon as it was moored in athlone. It was awful. There was the owner and two of us in it and I felt it handled very poorly. Very unstable with 3 in it so i would hate to see it in any kind of swell. I have a little 14 foot dory and its a lot more stable even with a 65 on the back.

i would be very careful with it. they have limitations. ease yourself into it and dont push it. If there is swell or chop forget about going out

thanks for that i suppose i have already set my mind now that the dejon is going to be a dodgey boat and i will be very careful of what water i put her in & how i handle her while in her.

It might be worth taking it out on one of the bigger lakes to get a feel for it. Maybe Ree theres lots of easy launches on it. Would give you an idea how she handles.

Defo invest in a radio and GPS.

Where are you thinking of launching from? I think it is worth keeping in mind that a lot of the reviews on the 14s are from guys fishing open sea and who now run warriors, orkneys, shetlands etc but the dejon is never going to be able to match the sea-keeping of those. But as I was saying i wasnt too impressed

well my main waterways would be lough/river erne in fermanagh also the shannon and most accessable loughs/lakes in that reigon but if it was calm enough & i mean reall calm (like a sheet of glass) i would consider in & around mullaghmore !!

but mostly for pike fishing

thanks for the help,

If you look at the video at around 0:40 you will see the reason people dont like here at sea. You can she how she rolls and thats only running over her own wash. You can imagine the movement in a swell with a F5 and a following sea.

For the shannon and lakes i would say she is fine.
