People: Me
Duration: 09:00 – 12:30
Tide: Flood
Weather: Sun and light sea breeze - perfect
Bait: Rag / Frozen Peeler
Rigs: 2 Hook Flapper size 1/0, then Pulley size 3/0
Results: Starry Smooth Hound

Report:
Well having been working away for the last couple of weeks it was definitely time to get out for a cast. I was thinking of heading west but decided to give the east coast a go, hearing of all the reports of Bass. Picked up some bait yesterday in Henrys and hit the road this morning at 08:00. Arrived at the mark at 09:00 and not another person in sight for miles. Set up both rods inc the new TTLD and put one out at distance and the other in near for flats. An hour passed and not even a bite. I was thinking of the dreaded blank as the last time I fished this mark that is exactly what I got. Right! rods in again and out with some huge rag baits. Then 20min later the TTLD started to bend and did not stop – Game on… a voice in my head saying keep cool, give line, don’t loose it, it could be a Bass (1st of the Year!)… After a good scrap and having taken plenty of line, I managed to get it into the surf. A fine Starry Smooth hound. Out of the surf and back to the gear for a few snaps, the only problem being that my arm is not long enough to get me and the fish in, then released! ( note to self, sort out a bracket on the tripod for the camera) All the same a fine hound and my first definite starry of the year caught on Rag. Blank Saved. On with the Pulley Rig baited with Peeler and out again hoping for more. Fished on for another two hours with Peeler on one rod and Rag on the other but only a few knocks, the swimmers were starting to show and high tide had just passed so packed up and headed for home. A good short session in all and must get back soon for that Bass  .
