tuesday night: headed east and met up with salty and as quick run for bait and food, we decided to keep it very local the first night, so with rods bags and bait we hit the beach..
well its hard to admit but we were out fished by herself, (even though we were after the big boys) she did catch flounder, whiting, codling and her target species of a BASS
and something like 10 fish over all, even though i did manage to get a dogfish and a fair sized smoothie of over 4 lbs, aand salty got similar fish...wednesday: joined now by MC we hit a mark to do a bit of plugging, had a few follows but no hits
wednesday night:
headed north a bit to a mark and fished, bites were slow, even though salty was getting pup smuts every cast i managed to get a couple of small ones and MC finally got his target species of smooth hound, then all went quiet for a long time, then salty got a good run and landed a good sized smut, which seemed to get us all back focused on the fishing, then i had a very nice run and landed a smut of 6lbs 4oz then all went extremely quiet, hit base camp to recharge the batteries..
thursday: hit another mark for plugging and had quite a few follows and one hit, but again no fish to show for it
thursday night:myself herself and MC went to pick up a bit of bait for the final night, and heard of a mark that was producing good sized smuts and bass, so plans were changed and off we headed. we got to the mark and could see great potential for bass and smuts, camp was set up and rods were cast for bass, MC had one good hit and i had quite a few follows, but the increasing winds and fading light meant a change of tactics, so herself and MC tried floating a ragworm as i set up my main rod for some big fish.
it wasnt long before bites started and first in was a dog fish, mc joined in the hunt for smuts and got a pup on his first cast, i then got a nice sized pup about the 1.5lbs mark..
then weed started to interfere with the ratchets, then i had a very good run, and this fish didnt want to come in at all, but thankfully i put on my sl30sh so i was able to get the upper hand, MC went down and lifted the fish for me and pics were taken, (pity i left the scales in the car as this was i recon well over the specimen size, i 'd nearly say 7.5lbs), then herself got a hit on the float, but the drag wasnt set right so the fish was able to make its escape into the weeds and snag the float
so with a new mark found, the gas stove was lit and pot noodles were had with many stories of fishy tales before hitting the hay, target species were acquired all round which is all that matters.
